Drinking Water Advisory-Partial Lift
Drinking Water Advisory-Partial Lift
Houghton County - Western Upper Peninsula Health Department has been provided with confirmation from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality that the following community water supplies did not experience any damage or loss of pressure during the weekend storms: Houghton, Hancock, Portage Township, Chassell, Adams Township, South Range, Calumet, Laurium, Lake Linden, Hubbell, Dollar Bay, and Ripley. These communities can continue to use the drinking water supply on a normal basis.

A boil water advisory remains in effect for approximately fifty customers in the Torch Lake area due to a water main break. These customers have received individual notification to not drink the water and bottled water has been provided. The precautionary boil water advisory will continue to be recommended for any individual person or business who is aware that their water service line has been damaged or is experiencing loss of water pressure or discolored water conditions. Report any water quality issues to your water utility provider.

If your water is not clear, DO NOT DRINK THE WATER, only drink or cook with bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, coffee, pop or other beverages, and preparing food until further notice. If the water is clear, you can bring the water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Food establishment operators experiencing water quality issues must follow the instructions in the Emergency Action Plans for Retail Food Establishments guide in order to remain open. Instructions are available in English, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese. A copy can also be faxed or emailed to you upon request.

If you have questions during the boil water advisory period, contact Tanya Rule, WUPHD Environmental Health Director, at (906) 482-7382.
